President’s Letter<\/h2>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”Small Line” line_alignment=”default” line_thickness=”2″ divider_color=”extra-color-3″ custom_height=”55″][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]Often<\/span>,<\/span> I wonder what annual events should serve as the topic for the Annual Report. For 2023, it turned out to be an easy decision. After more than 42 years in the same office space, the Amarillo Area Foundation and The Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation relocated to our new home at 919 South Polk in Downtown Amarillo. This move has been a tremendous journey<\/span>,<\/span> and certainly a learning experience for everyone involved.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The decision to leave an established home was not an easy one. There were years of memories in our previous location and familiarity with our space and our partners. Internal discussions about a possible relocation began in 2018 as we were looking at the long-term strategic direction for the Foundations and how we might best achieve our goals. Having a visible, accessible location that was available to our nonprofit partners and reinforced our role in the community surfaced as a priority in these discussions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As we moved forward on this project, we could never have anticipate<\/span>d<\/span> the chaos that 2020 had in store. A global pandemic and a supply chain crisis certainly impacted our timeline.\u00a0 However, with great partners and a solid vision for what we hoped to accomplish, we were able to forge ahead and move into our new space in the <\/span>summer<\/span> of 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our new location serves not only as a home for the Foundations but also as a resource to all of our nonprofit partners in the Texas Panhandle. We make our space available to any nonprofit at no charge, and we sincerely hope it serves as a resource for our communities for years to come.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite our excitement over our new home, we remain focused and committed t<\/span>o<\/span> meeting the needs of our neighbors all over the Texas Panhandle. We continue to work to address critical needs such as disaster relief. Wildfires and severe weather have taken their toll, and we are working hard to address these needs while maintaining our focus on our strategic priorities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First with Jenkens & Gilchrist of Dallas and then with Brown & Fortunato of Amarillo, Clay provided health care regulatory counsel to hospitals, pharmacies, and durable medical equipment providers and was a nationally recognized speaker and author on Medicare billing and compliance matters. He is a 1988 graduate of West Texas State University and graduated with honors from the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University in 1999.
\nAs President & CEO of the Amarillo Area Foundation, Clay directs the organization in fulfilling the Foundation\u2019s mission to improve quality of life for Texas Panhandle residents. Clay is originally from the Texas Panhandle and after just short of a decade in Dallas, found himself called to return. After the birth of her son, she and her family returned home to Amarillo and she worked as the Director of Ticketing for the Civic Center\/Globe-News Center. She joined the Foundation in 2016 as the Director of Operations, became the VP of Operations in 2019, and Senior Vice President in 2021. She oversees HR, IT, Operations, Communication, and Special Projects. In addition, she has an enhanced role supporting promotion of the foundation’s mission through community outreach. She and her husband have two amazing kids and she can occasionally be seen on stage with her cabaret act. David graduated magna cum laude from Texas Tech University and holds a degree in Accounting. During her free time, she enjoys being in nature, whether in the mountains camping and fishing, or on a beach and under the ocean. Roxann is committed to using her skills and the resources of the Amarillo Area Foundation in exceptional service to the nonprofit community of the Texas Panhandle. Prior to this role, Sarah assisted with the AAF grants program as an Administrative Assistant for both the internal and external grant programs.<\/p>\n

Sarah joined the Amarillo Area Foundation in September 2016. She taught accounting for several years at Dalhart High School, and after moving to west Texas, she found her niche in tax preparation and fund accounting. The Amarillo Area Foundation is the only community foundation serving Texas\u2019 northernmost 26 counties.\u00a0 Since its inception in 1957 and into the future, the Foundation provides grants and services to strengthen nonprofit organizations and the services they deliver. The Foundation is enriching the Panhandle communities we call home as a result of partnerships between area philanthropists and social entrepreneurs.
